In the past decades that we’ve been watching teleseryes, among the main reasons why we anticipate them are the main actors who take part in them, especially the ones portraying the lead roles, as well as the interesting storyline.

However, there are instances that as the narrative progresses, we eventually find ourselves getting hooked to a series not only because of the said factors but also of the supporting characters who added more excitement to it. And in recent years, several Kapamilya teleseryes introduced new and experimental loveteams that unexpectedly brought kilig to us, which include the five pairs in this feature!

Gelli de Belen and Cris Villanueva, 2 Good 2 Be True (2022)

In the decades that they’ve been in the industry, seasoned actors Gelli de Belen and Cris Villanueva probably didn’t expect that they would be involved in a loveteam, which happened when they got cast in 2 Good 2 Be True. The focus might be on the lov estory of the lead couple Ali and Eloy, played by Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, but the unforeseen romance of their characters Margie and P/Capt. Rafael Rosales was given the spotlight as well.

Their previous relationships may have left them brokenhearted – Margie got separated from her ex-husband while Kap. Rosales became a widower – but they were able to find a second chance in love and a fresh start in life with one another. Fondly called MarKap, their team-up proved that romance definitely knows no age.

Of course, who didn’t fall in love with the phenomenal pairing of Maris and Anthony, who amused us with their portrayal of the rich, maarte girl Irene Tiu and the simple, street-smart guy Snoop Manansala in Can’t Buy Me Love? It may be deemed unlikely at first, but their palpable chemistry and beyond-impressive comedic chops made the viewers want to see them more, thus the SnoRene ship sailed! They might be initially both in denial of their feelings for each other, but they were able to conquer their inhibitions and ultimately became a couple.

Dimples Romana and Christian Vasquez, The Iron Heart (2022-2023)

Another unlikely teleserye pair to grace our screens in recent years was Dimples and Christian, who indeed amused us with their portrayal of partners-in-crime Selene and Orcus in The Iron Heart. In the series heavily laden with action and drama, they provided comic relief through their hilarious antics and dialogues, which include Orcus’ ridiculous personality and quite cringey way of winning the affection and attention of his one and only “baby love.” Selene might have played hard to get at first, but she eventually fell for the charms and efforts of Orcus as they became each other’s endgame and even had a child in the finale of the series.

Jennica Garcia and Christian Bables, Dirty Linen (2023)

There’s definitely no doubt that Dirty Linen was the talk of the town throughout its run in 2023. And the same happened to the unexpected team-up of Christian and Jennica, who truly endeared viewers with their compelling portrayals of Max and Lala. From being amazed by how they’re able to pull off their challenging missions as part of the intractable Team Resbak’s pursuit of exacting vengeance against the ruthless Fiero Family, we found ourselves getting kilig by their adorable kulitan and asaran moments as the playful Lala made advances on the nonchalant Max. With how their closeness onscreen transcended in real life, their shippers couldn’t help but wish for them to become more than friends as well for real.

Gillian Vicencio and Yves Flores, 2 Good 2 Be True (2022)

Apart from the pairings of Ali and Eloy and of Margie and Kap Rosales, 2 Good 2 Be True also provided us with another source of kilig – the unexpected tandem of Red and Tox, played by Yves and Gillian. Girls who are one of the boys were probably able to relate to their love story, which started with them being part of a barkada until they developed romantic feelings for one another that they initially tried to suppress, especially since Tox had a crush on Eloy. But through his consistent efforts in showing his love and appreciation to her, Red was able to win the heart of Tox in the end.
