Sofronio Vasquez doesn’t mind being mistaken for Indonesian. Why?

Sofronio Vasquez, the first Filipino and Asian to win “The Voice USA,” expressed gratitude regarding some people thinking he was Indonesian. Find out why.

“I’m surprised, because I suddenly became Indonesian,” Sofronio said during his guest appearance on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” last Thursday.

“But I’m super blessed and grateful. Kumbaga whether I’m from Indonesia, it is a representation of being an Asian. Nilaban nila ako, they fought for what they really think sa kanila.”

In the said competition, Sofronio also received support from Americans, aside from Filipinos.

“I also just want to take the opportunity to thank my hometown in America which is Utica, upstate New York. Maybe one of the reasons why I was loved by mostly Americans is because, mostly Americans voted for me, upstate New York showed how appreciative they are of immigrants and refugees,” he said.

According to Sofronio, the area where he lives in the US is a “melting pot” of migrants.
