The scandal of Minh Tu and Miss Universe Pia from years ago was rekindled on social networks.
The noisy story of supermodel Minh Tu and Miss Universe 2015 – Pia Wurtzbach has been around for many years but was suddenly dug up again on a fashion forum. Specifically, 5 years ago, when Minh Tu participated in Asia’s Next Top Model 2017. She was considered one of the potential contestants and performed quite well in many challenges. But Minh Tu’s total score in the first episode was only 35, ranking 8th out of 14 of the episode.
It turned out that Miss Pia Wurtzbach gave the Vietnamese representative an extremely low score of 4.5, while the other judges all gave Minh Tu a very high score, at least 7.5. Immediately, Vietnamese netizens flooded the personal page of the Philippine Miss Universe and affirmed that she intentionally “put down” the Vietnamese representative. At that time, Minh Tu also had a post that touched on the Philippine beauty: “I don’t understand why she gave me 4.5 points. Below average, guys.”
After that, Pia Wurtzbach had to speak up to clarify that she did not hate Minh Tu: “Please stop criticizing. I love all the girls equally. Tu has a lot of potential, but her performance in episode 1 made me a bit disappointed. And that is my opinion as a judge. Please respect that. I don’t hate Tu. I don’t hate Vietnam. I encourage girls to participate in competitions like this, to challenge themselves to do their best.”
Not only Minh Tu, Khanh Van also had a confrontation with Pia Wurtzbach. In 2020, when Khanh Van was announced to be in the top 21 thanks to the highest number of votes in Miss Universe history, Pia immediately said: “Does Vietnam have more beauty fans than the Philippines?”.
Needless to say, Vietnamese audiences were outraged by Miss Universe 2015. In just one night, Vietnamese audiences flooded the beauty queen’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram… to curse and throw stones. Faced with such a huge wave of anger, the Filipino beauty had to make a correction: “For many years, I have been told (and I believe) that the Philippines has the most beauty fans in the world. But yesterday Vietnam received the highest number of votes in history. That means I was wrong. It surprised me, that’s all. That’s all I want to say about my post. I am not being sarcastic or doubting your vote victory. Hopefully this will clear things up. Congratulations to Vietnam for having the highest number of votes in Miss Universe history.”
