Miss Universe CEO causes outcry with comments about winner’s ‘blonde hair and blue eyes’

The Miss Universe CEO, said that the 2024 winner of the pageant having ‘blonde hair and blue eyes’ is the ‘ultimate evolution’

Victoria Kjær Theilvig won Miss Universe 2024

The Miss Universe pageant originated in 1952, with women compete from all around the world including Ireland’s competitor Sofia Labus. Last year the CEO said she was looking to make the pageant more diverse and “for all women around the world.”

This year’s contest was not without its controversy. Panama’s contestant Italy Mora was axed from the competition after allegedly paying an unauthorized visit to her boyfriend’s hotel room. Another contestant, Mia le Roux from South Africa, was forced to withdraw at the last minute “due to health concerns”.

And now the CEO of the pageant has caused outcry with this comments about this year’s winner, Victoria Theilvig. Anne Jakrajutatip was asked about the evolution of the competition, and her response caused confusion.

“Evolution?” the CEO asked. “Evolution? We have blonde and blue eyes, so we’re coming to the ultimate evolution already. We don’t need any more evolution here. We already got the best here.”

Donald Trump Jr. went so far as to comment on the results of the pageant with his personal opinion. He wrote: “Biological & objectively attractive women are allowed to win beauty pageants again. WE ARE SO BACK!!!”

Some rushed to agree. One wrote: “The world is healing!” Another said: “The reset button was hit immediately following Trump’s win. THIS IS AMAZING!”

But many pointed out that this had always been the case, confused about the younger Trump’s point.

“I mean, that’s always been the case, but sure, whatever makes you feel better…” one wrote.

Another said: “Please show me a non-attractive or a non-biological woman who won Miss Universe in the past. I’m curious.”

“Literally always been the case what,” one wrote.

When Jakrajutatip acquired the Miss Universe brand in October 2022, she said that she would use the opportunity to focus on inclusion.

“We seek not only to continue its legacy of providing a platform to passionate individuals from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and traditions but also to evolve the brand for the next generation,” she told obtained a video

When speaking about the pageant publicly in 2023, she stuck with that message, even mentioning that she herself is a trans woman.

“From now on, it’s going to be run by women, owned by a trans woman, for all women around the world,” Jakrajutatip said.

“Diverse cultures, social inclusion, gender equality, creativity, a force for good, and a force for the beauty of humanity,” she added.
