On Monday, Pepsi Paloma movie director Darryl Yap revealed that the release of the film has been postponed and this is the reason why.
Filmmaker Darryl Yap said that his movie about Pepsi Paloma won’t open in Philippine cinemas on February 5 as originally planned. In a post, the film’s director shared this detail along with the reason behind the postponement.
As much as we all know, Eat Bulaga host Vic Sotto filed 19 counts of cyber libel against Yap as a spliced part from the film was released. The controversy stemmed from the content where Paloma portrayed by Rhed Bustamante clearly accused Sotto of assaulting her as seen in the teaser.
The filed complaint seeks a total damage of Php 35 million and before this, the camp of Sotto filed a petition to issue the writ of habeas data which the court already granted.
Previously, the trailer of the Pepsi Paloma film was released and it stated there that it would be shown in cinemas this February 5. However, this plan will not be pushed through.
Yap explained that the reason behind the postponement was that his team was not able to complete all the documents required by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).
“Ipinaaabot ko po sa lahat ng nakasubaybay na bigo po ang panig ng inyong lingkod na agarang makumpleto ang mga dokumentong hinihingi ng pamunuan ng MTRCB kaya’t imposible pong maipalabas ang ating pelikula sa February 5,” the statement read.
It added that they were thinking of other possible ways to launch the film. They were thinking of premiering the film outside of the country first. They are also considering putting it on streaming platforms.
Whatever decision they would come up with, he assured the public that they would certainly know about it. To recall, the MTRCB earlier said that the film was not yet under review “due to incomplete requirements”.
