“It was really fulfilling because I feel like personally, I grew up with my lola and parang when I saw the script, it was really close to me,” sabi ni JK sa vlog ng talent manager at entertainment reporter na si Ogie Diaz.
JK’s story is that he also made his grandmother cry because of the movie, especially when he did a cover of the song “Through the Years.”
“It’s terrible, Lola was very affected after she watched a movie and then she cried. Then I’m hurt because it doesn’t matter if I cry or everything, just don’t Lola. Do you know that? It’s like a different family,” JK remembered.
He said that even though his grandmother in Bisaya cursed him because he made her cry, JK knows that she is still proud of him. The singer-actor said, he only listens to the opinions of his grandmother and uncle, and even the people he loves in life to avoid negativity.
“Because there’s so much outside noise. Whatever it is that we do. But only from Lola that ‘You did a good job,’ or ‘Be better on this,’ that’s okay, non-negotiable,” said the singer.
JK and Ogie also talked about his parents and the singer said that since he was born, he was raised by his grandmother, along with his uncle who is his mother’s brother. Therefore, the singer-actor admitted that his grandmother’s love is what he is used to.
“Hindi lang pagmamahal sa’kin, kundi the way she also loves in general, the way she loves other people. My mom was a huge part of my life din naman, given the circumstances before. It was really my lola and my uncle. My uncle, I call him Papa, he’s the brother of my mom, anak ni Lola,” sabi ni JK.
“They are still with me now,” concluded the singer and actor.
